Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Divison

On behalf of both Oregon and Washington OSHA, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Steve Wobber of Great Northwest Equipment for providing instruction on mast climbing scaffolding this past January.

Steve dedicated much time from his busy schedule and tailored his presentation specifically for OSHA enforcement and consultation staff. He provided one session in our Portland office to accomodate both Oregon and Washington OSHA field staff and , a week later, traveled two hours south to present a second session for our southern Oregon staff in our Eugene office.

Steve was very well prepared for his OSHA audience. He anticipated questions likely to be asked ans described the common work practices and industry best practices associated with this unique type of scaffolding. The staff participating in this training allhad a strong desire to learn the specific characteristics and common hazards involving mast climbers and Steve masterfully accomplished our objectives.

Steve provided our staff a comprehensive overview of these systems and the proper procedures needed to safety erect, operate, and dismantle them. He described in great detail the various components used, inspection protocol, and the training expectations from both Hydro-Mobile and ANSI/SIA 92.9. Many positive comments were shared and most specifically mentioned the value of Steve highlighting the areas we should pay attention to, including Hydro-Mobile's "BLT-Squared" approach.

Furthermore, Steve spoke very highly of Hydro Mobile policies and reinforced the importance of following established protocol in this inherently dangerous industry.

It is obvious Steve has a strong passion for his work and a genuine concern for public and worker safety. Steve is a terrific representative of Hydro Mobile and Great Northwest Equipment and was a tremendous resources to us.
